Good luck to all our London Marathon runners!

16 April 2018

World Cancer Research Fund is delighted to have people from all walks of life running the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 22 April in support of its cancer prevention and survival work.

Gerard Cousins, Director of Fundraising at World Cancer Research Fund, said: "We're so grateful to each and every runner who'll be pounding the streets of central London on Sunday on our behalf - our special cheering squads will be there to spur them on. Their support means we can do even more to help everyone make informed lifestyle choices to reduce their cancer risk. For example, our new, free Eat Well During Cancer booklet is filled with scientifically supported recipes and tips, based on the latest medical advice, to help people cope with the side-effects of cancer and cancer treatment. Well over 9,000 copies have already been requested."

Just some of the inspiring stories about our 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon runners include:

  • Katie Ferguson-Cuffe, 22, from Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk, who is running an extraordinary three marathons across three weekends (ASICS Greater Manchester Marathon on 8 April, Brighton Marathon on 15 April and Virgin Money London Marathon on 22 April) - she has an aunt, grandmother, grandfather and cousin who are all in remission from cancer.
  • Top London hotel head chef Christian Bleicher, running for family members and friends he tragically lost to cancer far too early, but in whose memory he wants to help improve research and understanding of what causes cancer.
  • George Lee, 24, from Abingdon in Oxfordshire, running his first-ever marathon. A loved one was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago - happily it was caught and treated early, and George wants to help ensure everyone diagnosed with cancer has the chance to continue to live a full life.

There will be 19 runners undertaking the 2018 Virgin Money London Marathon to support World Cancer Research Fund's work, including:

Christian Bleicher from Stratford, London
Laura Goodbourn from Derriford, Plymouth
Ruth Freckleton from Hartley Wintney, Hampshire
Tom Harrison from Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Katie Ferguson-Cuffe from Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk
George Lee from Abingdon, Oxfordshire
James Radford from Corby, Northamptonshire
Carl Villiers from Corby, Northamptonshire
