For the first time, World Cancer Research Fund is proud to be part of the Big Give, the UK’s largest online matched giving campaign. Tom Ingram, World Cancer Research Fund’s Senior Partnerships Manager, explains here the double benefit your Big Give donation will have.
The Big Give launches tomorrow (on 28 November) – Giving Tuesday. To date, it has helped raise over £83 million for UK-registered charities since it was founded by Sir Alec Reed in 2007.
‘Online matched giving’ basically means that your donation gets increased! More on that shortly, but the important bit is that we want to raise £10,000 via the Big Give to get our new Eat Well During Cancer booklet to more people who need it.
Research has shown that around half of cancer patients don’t receive any dietary advice that could help ease some of the side-effects of their treatment, so we’ve produced Eat Well During Cancer, in collaboration with the British Dietetic Association, specifically to provide this advice and support.
Already, over 9,000 copies of Eat Well During Cancer have been distributed to cancer patients and healthcare professionals around the UK. With money raised through the Big Give, we want to ensure even more people receive this important resource.
Toral Shah (below), a cancer survivor and nutritional scientist is also backing our Big Give Christmas Challenge campaign.
“As a nutritionist and cancer survivor," she says, "I know it’s vital to eat healthily when undergoing treatment. World Cancer Research Fund’s Eat Well During Cancer booklet provides key information and recipes to help cope with some of the side-effects people experience. Please donate to World Cancer Research Fund as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge and have your gift doubled, enabling even more people to receive this support.”
We need your support to reach our £10,000 Big Give target. Thanks to online matched funding, the first £5,000 we raise during the Big Give’s week-long campaign – which starts tomorrow (28 November) – will be matched against pledges we have received from our long-term supporter SCIEX and by the Reed Foundation.
By donating to World Cancer Research Fund via the Big Give’s website, any time from midday tomorrow (28 November) to midday on 5 December, your donation will be doubled. So, a £5 gift from you becomes £10 at no extra cost to you. That's double the impact we can achieve with Eat Well During Cancer.
Please visit the Big Give website today. Thank you for your continued support of World Cancer Research Fund.
