Making tomato sauce is so easy – and a good thing to learn when you’re starting to cook. You can use tomatoes when they’ve started to go a bit soft because you’ll be cooking them anyway. Tomatoes contain vitamin A, which is good for eyesight.

  1. First, ask an adult to help you heat the oil in your saucepan. Add the chopped onion and garlic and stir until the onions are translucent. This will take around 10 minutes.
  2. Next, stir in the fresh chopped tomatoes and the can of tomatoes. Keep the pan on a low heat.
  3. Then mix in the tomato purée and dried mixed herbs. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, then it’s ready to serve!

TOP TIP

Cook some wholemeal pasta and stir the sauce through. Serve with a bit of fresh basil on top.
