Payroll giving lets employees donate from their gross salary (before tax is deducted), giving tax relief on those donations. It’s also possible to donate like this through a pension.
If you pay income tax at the basic rate of 20%, 20p is paid in tax for every £1 that you earn. If you donate £10 a month, we receive £10 but only £8 is deducted from your net pay.
If you pay income tax at the higher rate of 40%, 40p is paid in tax for every £1 that you earn. If you donate £10 a month, we receive £10 but only £6 is deducted from your net pay.
It’s more efficient for higher rate taxpayers to donate through payroll giving than gift aid. Charities are unable to claim back tax above the basic rate through gift aid.
Contact Sarah-Jane to talk about payroll giving or fill in our payroll giving form.
