Results from WCRF UK 2009 health professionals survey

A big 'thank you' to all the respondents who completed our health professionals survey included in the spring mailing of Informed, our health professionals newsletter. Your feedback helps us plan our future activities for health professionals. Respondents included dietitians (62 per cent) and practice nurses (24 per cent). Other readers included GPs, nutritionists and nurses. Below are some of the survey highlights.

Informed newsletter

• Around 96 per cent of respondents rated the articles and information in Informed as very good or good.
• Informed is an educational tool so it was positive that 94 per cent said the newsletter had helped them gain a better understanding of the role diet and lifestyle play in cancer prevention.
• Nearly 80 per cent of respondents said that they pass their copy of Informed on to at least one colleague making it a cost-effective publication.

Health Professionals web section

• About 97 per cent rated the information and design of WCRF UK health professionals web section as either good or very good, with the hot topics and Informed newsletter sections being the most popular.
• Three quarters of respondents wanted to see new downloadable meal planners and diaries, so we are pleased that you can now download these from our resources section.

Health promotion and publications

• Twenty-eight per cent of respondents thought that lack of budget was the main barrier to communicating health messages to the general public while 27 per cent blamed lack of time. The difficulty of translating scientific messages into simple language and the lack of public interest were also on the list. This is why we have created more free online resources on this website, such as our new cancer survivors factsheet.
• Nearly one in six of respondents wanted to have the option to order publications in small quantities, so we have created a Healthy Weight pack, which can be ordered in single copies and which includes some of our most popular resources.
