| Candle of hope for cancer prevention |
November 28, 2007
|
World Cancer Research Fund celebrates and remembers those who have lost their lives to cancer through its Candle of Hope appeal.
From Christmas Eve through to Twelfth Night, candles burn in 20 major cathedrals around the UK, from Chichester to Christchurch, Winchester to Westminster.
The Candle of Hope appeal raises vital funds for WCRF research and education programmes and to date has raised over £586,000.
Teresa Nightingale, WCRF Head of Fundraising, said: “The candles are a way of giving WCRF supporters and visitors to the cathedrals a chance to reflect and remember.
“And every penny raised through the appeal supports our valuable research and education work. Without this kind of support we would be unable to continue our work and important advances in the way we understand cancer prevention would not be made.”
Around a third of cancers are preventable by healthy food and nutrition, physical activity and weight management.
If you would like to dedicate a Candle of Hope to a loved one and have their name entered into the WCRF Book of Remembrance, please contact WCRF on freephone 0800 970 1461 or visit http://www.wcrf-uk.org/fundraising
