| WCRF supporter wins volunteering award |
March 17, 2008
|
One of World Cancer Research Fund’s volunteers has won a prestigious
national award to recognise his contribution.
Shiavax Daji, who has been volunteering for WCRF since 2005, was presented
with the Transforming Lives Through Volunteering award by Baroness Hayman at
a reception at the House of Lords.
During his time with WCRF, Mr Daji has been involved in sending out the
charity's vital cancer prevention information and also in preparing the
packs for participants in running events.
As well as working with WCRF, Mr Daji has also volunteered for other
charities.
Lucie Galice, General Manager of WCRF UK, said: "We are delighted that the
hard work and dedication that Mr Daji has put in over the last few years has
been recognised in this way.
"I warmly congratulate him on the award, and I would also like to thank him
on behalf of everyone in the charity for the important role he has played in
helping us spread the vital message that lifestyle choices can make a real
difference to our cancer risk."

Notes to editors
About WCRF
World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) raises awareness that cancer is largely preventable and helps people make choices to reduce their chances of developing the disease.
This includes research into how cancer risk is related to diet, physical activity, and weight management, and education programmes that highlight the fact that about a third of cancers could be prevented through changes to lifestyle. For more information on the charity’s work, visit www.wcrf-uk.org
The WCRF report, called Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: a Global Perspective, was launched in November 2007 and is the most comprehensive report ever published on the link between cancer and lifestyle. For more information, visit www.dietandcancerreport.org. |
