Every year millions of used inkjet and laser jet cartridges and mobile phones are thrown away.
All of these can be recycled and have financial value that can support WCRF UK.
65 million printer cartridges are disposed of each year, which contribute to the 650,000 tonnes of non-biodegradable solid waste in landfill sites every year.
100 million mobile phones are hidden away in UK homes, fewer than 10% are recycled. In the UK alone, an estimated 15 million mobile phone handsets are discarded every year, this equates to 1500 tonnes of potential landfill every year.
How you can make a difference through recycling
Recycling makes sense and it couldn’t be easier to do. All you need to do to is join WCRF UK’s ‘Recycle for Research’ scheme and start sending us your old inkjet, copier, fax, laser jet cartridges and mobile phones. We will then turn them into much needed funds to support the charity.
For every mobile phone recycled, ShP solutions, our mobile phone recycling partner, will make a donation of between 50p and £50, dependent on make and model, and for every print cartridge recycled Environmental Business Products will donate £1.
Funds raised will support innovative scientific research into cancer prevention as well as an extensive national education programme.
For example:
£5 would enable us to place 40 of our life-saving cancer prevention leaflets in doctors' surgeries waiting rooms.
£150 could pay for an expert team, at one of our research projects, to carry out one day of life saving research into specific foods, diets and lifestyles, which can help prevent cancer.
Don’t forget the other fantastic advantage of this scheme is that you’ll be helping to reduce the damage waste does to our environment also.
