WCRF UK scoops PR Award
WCRF UK has scooped a prestigious award for the media campaign surrounding the launch of our Second Expert Report, which launched back in November 2007. The Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) voted WCRF UK's Expert Report promotion the best in its Healthcare Campaign of the Year category, a high accolade indeed especially as the competition was of such a strong standard.
Lisa, Head of Education, said: "We are so pleased to collect this award and be recognised for our health promotion communications. Our PR team works very hard to package what is often quite complex scientific data into more easily understood public messages. We are delighted to have won the best Healthcare campaign, it's another feather in WCRF UK's cap!"

Cancer warning on daily fry-up
People who eat a fry-up every day could be almost two thirds more likely to develop bowel cancer, according to a cancer prevention charity.
World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) is warning that eating 150g of processed meat a day – the equivalent of about two sausages and three rashers of bacon - increases bowel cancer risk by 63 per cent.
Because of this, people who eat daily fry-ups are being urged to think about reducing the amount of processed meat in their diet. In fact, the evidence that processed meat is a cause of bowel cancer is so strong that WCRF recommends that people should avoid eating it.
But while the scientific evidence is convincing, a recent survey showed revealed just 34 per cent of Britons are aware of the link.
Supporter of the Quarter
WCRF UK is delighted to name Thomas Simpson as our Supporter of the Quarter. Thomas from Bradford is only 12 years of age, which makes his support of our charity even more impressive.
When Thomas’ dad, Kevin, was diagnosed with oesophagal cancer earlier this year Thomas decided to organise a sponsored run to raise money for WCRF UK. The day was a great success and more than £200 was raised and has been put towards our cancer prevention research and education programmes.
Thomas is a real inspiration to us all at WCRF UK and we would like to thank him and his classmates for their hard work and support, as well as wishing Kevin our best wishes.
Calling Fruity Friday donations!
It’s not too late to pass on your Fruity Friday event funds. WCRF UK is kindly requesting any outstanding income to be passed on so that it can be put to immediate use within our programmes of cancer prevention.
If any teachers would like to give us feedback on our primary school lesson plans they can complete a quick online Fruity Schools questionnaire, which will really help us to develop new plans for next year.
