John Hallsworth is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s highest freestanding mountain to support World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK). John will be trekking up to 5,895m to raise funds for our cancer prevention research along with his pal Flat Eric. "Hello guys!!!

Yes!! The rumours are true! After spending a lifetime at the edge of the law and raving to that legendary ‘beat’ I am hanging up my ‘well pressed’ jeans and swapping them for some Gore-Tex as I prepare to climb the highest peak in Africa; Mount Kilimanjaro.

But I am of course not doing it alone! I am also dragging housemate John along in the hopes that ‘occasionally’ he may want to carry me! (note the word occasionally :P).

We are taking the Lemosho trail up Kilimanjaro, an 8 day trek full of challenges that will see us go through dense rainforest, moorland meadow, high altitude deserts, rocky landscapes, the impressive volcanic rock barrier known as the Barranco Wall, and a series of ridges and steep paths before reaching the 5,895m high summit on day 7. Add to this the below freezing temperatures and a severe lack of oxygen (not that I’ll be affected by that... one of the advantages of being a puppet! :P ).

Although it is a huge challenge, we have a very personal reason to fundraise for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK); John lost his Nan to cancer a few years ago, she IS our inspiration! And at almost 6Km high we will be a little bit closer to heaven.

For her and for our friends around the world whose lives have been tainted by cancer but never lose their smile, for all the people who have fought and for those that are fighting! For them, for you and for us, we are climbing that beast of a mountain trying to raise vital funds for WCRF UK; TO STOP CANCER BEFORE IT STARTS!

The power to do extraordinary things is in all our hands, let’s not let cancer spoil that! Please spare a few pennies (maybe instead of eating that Kit Kat today?), so that the invaluable research can continue: together we can beat cancer!
