Berlin Marathon

26th September 2010

£915.00
raised so far

"I was diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma last year, which is a very rare cancer, but luckily the tumour was also in a rare place between two ribs so I was aware of it relatively quickly and it hadn’t had a chance to spread. (Touch wood) Having always been fit and active and still being fairly young it was a real shock as I had always taken my health for granted. After some evasive surgery and chemotherapy I have got through it and feel fine again. The only difference being that I now have short dark hair, I used to have to dye it this colour! I also have a beautiful scar across my ribs, but if and when I brave a bikini this summer I plan to say it was caused by a shark bite!

I decided to run the Berlin Marathon this year to raise money for a really great charity, plus purple is my favourite colour! After a year of inactivity, training for a marathon is giving me no choice but to get back fighting fit again. I am actually really enjoying the training too. On the hard days I just have to think back to lying in that hospital bed for 3 or 4 days at a time having poison pumped into me and it spurs me on to make it up the huge hills that I manage to find on every run! I have roped in 6 other poor souls to run with me, thanks guys! In addition to the full marathon this year I am also running two-10km “race for life’s” and the south coast half marathon. Obviously I am doing all this for me but also for the other people close to me that have had cancer including my Nana, Aunt, and my fiancée’s mum. I am also doing it for the friends and family who got me through the last year, as I couldn’t have done it without them.

Everyone that I talk to about it knows someone who has been affected by cancer, so any donation that you can make to help support World Cancer Research Fund will be greatly appreciated. Also please don’t take your own health for granted, get fit, be healthy, be happy and make sure that you live life to the full.

Thank you very much for your donation.”
