Darren O’Donnell

Darren O’Donnell will be running the 26.2 mile course of the Berlin Marathon to raise vital funds for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK). The donations he receives will help to carry out our cancer prevention research and education programmes. "On September 26th I am running the Berlin Marathon to raise valuable donations for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK). I am running as part of a team (Gym and Tonic), which includes friends and family members. We are all taking part as one member of the team was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in the early part of 2009.  With the treatment she received plus her strength and determination she has beaten it, and is able to run alongside us to help this worthy cause.

Cancer affects us all in some shape or form especially when you least expect it.  If I can help this charity to prevent others from having to go through this traumatic ordeal, I would feel a great sense of achievement. This is very close to my heart as friends and loved ones have gone through this uncaring and thoughtless disease, and with your sponsorship we can help to prevent it.

As we are getting closer to the run my training doesn't seem to be getting any easier and the distances are just getting longer and longer.  When I run I am always thinking about why I'm doing this and the reward I'll have at the end, it's not only a great personal achievement of running 26.2 miles but also the feeling that I am helping others.  Those of you that know my competitive streak will know how hard I have been training to reach my target time, as this could very well be the one and only marathon that I get to do.
