Berlin Marathon

26th September 2010

£1,248.50
raised so far

"In January 2009 my life was turned upside down when my beautiful big sister Emma was diagnosed with cancer. Everybody dreads the thought of ever encountering that evil “C” word and until you do nothing can prepare you for it. Watching a loved one suffer after going through two operations, fertility and a six-month course of chemotherapy, was the most heart breaking and emotional thing I have ever had to go through. She was strong and brave and fought through all of it. The endless trips in and out of hospital, being poked and prodded and pumped full of poisonous drugs and she hardly ever moaned or complained, I was so proud of her.

One of the hardest things for me was seeing her poorly after her chemo sessions but I had to be strong and support her as best I could. She finished her treatment at the end of August 2009 and although she is still having regular check ups I am pleased to say that she is doing really well.

Emma and a group of us then decided we wanted to raise some money for World Cancer Research Fund as well as set ourselves a challenge, so we entered the 2010 Berlin Marathon. There is a group of 7 of us all of whom have had loved ones and friends who have experienced and in some cases died of cancer.

I will admit that I am not a runner by any means and the furthest I have ever run was a 5km race for life last year and it nearly killed me!!! However I am now very much getting into the swing of and enjoying the training. Some days are good and some days are bad, but you just go with it and I am determined to succeed. On bad days I always find promising myself a big bar of chocolate at the end of the run always helps!

So here comes my plea, please, please, please sponsor me as much as you can for this worthy cause. We have to raise a minimum of £750 each but to get more than that would be fantastic.

Thank you so much for your support.”
