Camino de Santiago “The Way of St. James”
June/July 2010
raised so far
"2010 is a very special year in my life. First of all, in January I became grandfather to a lovely little girl - Stéphanie Marcella, and secondly, this year I celebrate my 60th birthday.
Stéphanie Marcella was born on January 26th, the day that would have been the 30th birthday of my son, Marcel, who died far too young, at the age of 21, in 2001.
But, instead of celebrating six decades in the more “traditional” way, I want the attention to focus on the disease which has taken two members of my family; my son and my mother: That disease is cancer and thus I am looking to raise money to support WCRF UK.
It is with this in mind that, starting June 14th, I'll be walking the Camino de Santiago, also known as “The Way of St. James” and would request your sponsorship.
This pilgrim route, from St Jean-Pied-de-Port in the foothills of the Pyrenees, in the south-west of France, to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, is just short of 800 km and, also considering my dodgy leg; I am taking on quite a challenge!!
The walk should take about five weeks; I hope to complete it by mid-July.
I believe these are very good reasons for such a challenge, in support of an excellent cause: WCRF UK.
I can hear some of you think: How do we know that he has walked the full distance?
The answer to that is quite simple. A so-called “Pilgrimage Passport” is issued which gets stamped every day along the walk, as proof of authenticity of any claim a walker might want to make.
I am sure that you will agree with me, that WCRF UK is an excellent cause and I look forward to your generosity, as well as your moral support.”
