Andrew Rayner

Andrew (Billy) Rayner is once again taking part in a marathon (or 2!) to support World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK). This time he is tackling 2 marathons within 6 months of each other! A feat that will take him into double figures for marathons and will be his 5th in just over 2 years! The donations Andrew receives will help WCRF UK carry out their cancer prevention research and education programmes. This Olympic year Andrew is hoping to raise a fantastic £2,012. Please show your support by sponsoring him by clicking on the orange ‘sponsor me now’ button below. Thank you in advance for your donation.

"I am proud to be running for World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) once again. I have had several relatives and friends, including both parents, who have suffered from or lost their lives to cancer and this is why I support WCRF UK and the fantastic work they in do in researching the causes of the disease and ways of stopping it in the first place. Since taking up running in 2004 I have gradually taken on board advice from WCRF UK about diet and exercise and I feel fitter and younger than I did 6 years ago. This has helped me knock over 1 hour 20 minutes off my time from my first marathon in 2005.

As ever, I am running it in memory of my parents, Margaret & Bill Rayner and everyone else I have known or had the pleasure of meeting over the years who have succumbed to this disease including, Ari Up (The Slits) and Adrian Normanton (Old Otliensians RUFC president). Finally a mention to Pete Latham, an inspiration in my sporting activities since my schooldays. My thoughts are with him and his family.

Thank you"
