Trek to Machu Picchu Peru

11-20 October 2013

£532.00
raised so far

"I first took an interest in WCRF UK when my uncle got diagnosed with bowel cancer about 5 years ago. Fortunately he made a full recovery, but not without the assistance of long and intensive treatment. My uncle then became interested in the work of WCRF UK, lifestyle changes and strategies devoted to the 'Prevention' rather than cure of many forms of cancer, the motto simply being, 'Stopping Cancer Before it Starts'.

Following my uncle on his journey through cancer, his lifestyle before, compared with the way he lives his life today, his health and general sense of well being have never been better, I was intrigued from the start. Subsequently I now volunteer part-time at their London office.

This is a huge career change for me, but I embrace the challenge starting with the 10-day trek in ‘Machu Picchu’, and of course the fundraising events that I may do leading up to Peru. I understand it to be a pretty intense challenge, dealing with mountains, valleys, and camping at high altitudes. This will be the grand finale to all my fundraising events. I would like to finish by saying that I am proud and privileged to be part of such a challenging and rewarding project for such a wonderful charity.

Many thanks for your support and donations."
