"Entering a marathon is simple; it is completing it that is the difficult part. This requires training, and lots of it! For this reason it is vital to choose a charity that you respect, and believe is worthy of your efforts. What impresses me about World Cancer Research Fund is that it is orientated around prevention, not reaction. It is about eliminating a disease that has affected countless numbers of lives, either directly or indirectly.

So what am I getting from entering the Brighton Marathon? Well, I was what you might call a stereotypical student – I drank far too much alcohol than my bank balance permitted, skived more lectures than I attended, and spent most of my time on the sofa. The message here is ‘new beginnings’, after-all, what better motivation to change my life-style than entering a marathon.  

People who know me laughed when I said I was thinking of entering a marathon, and I can understand why. I was one of those people who signed up to the gym for twelve months in January to quit in February. However, this time it is different, I know that if I don’t train then a difficult day will become an impossible one.
