Great North Run – Sunday 5 October 2008

So why am I doing this? Well, firstly Hodson, our Roman Centurion, is persistent and second I couldn't resist the thought of 30 of us running round Newcastle dressed up as Gladiators. For those of you who have seen the film and remember 'Russ' shouting "Hold the line..." in the beginning battle scene, picture me doing just the same thing surrounded by Geordies...! That should be good enough reason to give!

So the challenge is a relative walk in the park for me these days - I'm not running across a desert or crossing the Alps on ski, but it will be a great team event, driving awareness. It's not for me, but for you, your lover, your kids, your folks. And that's just what WCRF do: educating people so that we can avoid cancer in the first place, as scientists believe about one third of cancers are avoidable by leading a healthy life. Most of you reading this now will know someone that has suffered from cancer - either close friend or family - and this includes myself. So read up on this site, give a little (please!) and buy the papers the morning after the Great North Run - we'll try to get front page!
