WCRF UK Health Professionals Conference 2006

Make it Happen: Diet, Physical Activity and Behaviour Change for Cancer Prevention

The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) health professionals’ conference 2006 took place at the Royal College of Physicians in London in March.

The event was a great success, attended by over 100 health professionals including dietitians, nurses and 5 A DAY co-ordinators who learnt about the theories of behaviour change and how they could be used to improve diets and lifestyles.

Researchers from the UK and Europe spoke about successful case studies and interventions, which had led to positive changes in the diet and physical activity and provided practical information and advice, which health professionals could use with their patients.

WCRF UK also highlighted the new and emerging area of diet and lifestyle advice for people already diagnosed with cancer.

During the day it became increasingly apparent that nutrition and physical activity behaviours are among the most important determinants of population health, and that promoting healthy eating and physical activity are key objectives of health promotion to reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic disease.
