Mike and Sam Lamond
Dedicated runners Mike and Sam Lamond were announced as WCRF UK’s joint Supporters of the Quarter for winter 2008.
The inspirational couple supported WCRF UK’s cancer prevention work by running the Flora London Marathon twice on our behalf. Their initial lot of training led to more than just increased fitness, though, when Mike proposed to Sam after crossing the finishing line in 2006! They ran the 2008 London Marathon as a married couple.
Both Mike and Sam have direct experience of cancer, after Sam’s first husband sadly lost his battle with stomach cancer and Mike’s mum fought breast cancer, from which she has now recovered.
Mike said: “Cancer is something that has affected both myself and Sam, which is why running the London Marathon for WCRF UK was so important to us.
“We really support the cancer prevention message that WCRF UK carries and think that the work they do in funding scientific research into the disease is incredibly important. As the years go by, the link between diet, exercise and cancer is becoming more pronounced and it makes me very proud to support WCRF UK. We were really flattered to be named their Supporters of the Quarter.”
WCRF UK would like to thank Mike and Sam for the hard work they put into supporting our message and we wish them a long and happy marriage!
