“More than a decade ago I received communication from World Cancer Research Fund offering a free Will Organiser. It got me thinking about my affairs and I realised that I hadn’t revised my will since 1978. It was hopelessly out-of-date. I set about putting my ‘house in order’ and after it was done I felt a huge sense of satisfaction and relief.
I’ve since kept it under constant review. I made sure everyone close to me is provided for and I also decided to leave a final gift to World Cancer Research Fund.
I began supporting them more than 17 years ago after a very dear friend of mine died of bowel cancer. He was only in his fifties and it came as a great shock. His wife asked that we send charitable donations rather than flowers. I learnt that World Cancer Research Fund focuses on the prevention of cancer and my mind was made up. I’ve known so many people die of cancer so I’m all for prevention and I’ve continued to support them ever since.
The charity’s valuable will-writing guides helped me organise my affairs and informed me of inheritance tax implications. I’ve even passed their tips on to other members of my family.
World Cancer Research Fund really does pioneering work. I try to follow their healthy lifestyle message. I make sure I take daily exercise and eat the right things. I’m not saying I’m perfect, I think we all have a tendency to lapse now and again, but I’ve made changes and I feel much better for it.
I’m confident that leaving a gift to World Cancer Research Fund really will make a difference and for that reason I can’t think of a better present to leave my children and grandchildren.”
