Blazing Saddles
Never ones to shy away from a challenge, the Blazing Saddles started off as an idea by a group of ex-patriot friends now working and living in Oslo. Each year they take on an epic cycling challenge: in 2007 they cycled across Sweden, in 2008 it was Denmark and in 2009 they took on Germany.
Their most recent expedition saw them cycle over 300km of arduous terrain from Copenhagen to Hamburg. They set off from Copenhagen early on 11 Sep 2009 and, like a flock of saddles, headed through Denmark. They then took a short ferry ride across the Fehmarnbelt since the bridge is not due to be completed until 2018. From there it was just a short (!) ride of 150km to their destination of Hamburg.
To date, the group has raised in excess of £7,000 for World Cancer Research Fund!
“World Cancer Research Fund is a well-deserving charity. All of us have been, and continue to be, touched by cancer; some of us only recently having lost loved ones to the disease. It’s a cause close to our hearts and with WCRF working globally to fund cancer prevention research and education programmes, it’s a charity that fits very well with our multi-national biking gang.”
Our huge thanks go out to the Blazing Saddles: Paul De Ora, Graeme White, Lee Tumelty, Kevin Gould, along with Henrik Hasselknippe, Stefan Wächter, Jørund Haartveit for their fantastic efforts and any others who have joined them on earlier adventures. You’re an amazing bunch of blokes!
