About us
World Cancer Research Fund is dedicated to preventing cancer. We do this by:
- Funding scientists in the UK and overseas to carry out research that improves our understanding about how diet, physical activity and weight management affect cancer risk.
- Funding education programmes that tell people in the UK what they can do to reduce their risk of cancer. By giving people science-based information, we give them the chance to make informed lifestyle choices.
We were the first cancer charity to focus on the links between diet and cancer and today we continue to be at the cutting edge of cancer prevention.
Scientists estimate that about a third of the most common cancers could be prevented by eating healthily, being physically active and maintaining a healthy weight, which means our cancer prevention work can save lives.
Our vision
- World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF UK) helps people make choices that reduce their chances of developing cancer.
Our heritage
We were the first cancer charity:
- To create awareness of the relationship between diet and cancer risk
- To focus funding on research into diet and cancer prevention
- To consolidate and interpret global research to create a practical message on cancer prevention.
Our mission
Today WCRF UK continues:
- Funding research on the relationship of nutrition, physical activity and weight management to cancer risk.
- Interpreting the accumulated scientific literature in the field.
- To ensure that diet and health recommendations for reducing the risk of cancer are based on current science.
- Educating people about choices they can make to reduce their chances of developing cancer.
